Wet Pets

We walked to Wet pets and looked at some fish to by. Someone who works at Wet Pets gave us a page of ten thing to find. It was kind of like a treasure hunt but it was just a hunt. We didn't really have to find like pick it up we just had to look with our eyes like how much harlequins are there at the shop. This is a picture of my group also with a harlequin. Our parent helpers were Deb & Nicola. We had 6 groups. We walked a long way. The groups were called silvertips, glowlight tetras, ember tetras & penguin tetras. We have also made letters to Wet Pets.

Patterns

We have been learning about patterns. This is a picture of some pattern work. It was fun I made two with Riya. We had squares with holes in them.

We are going to have a class pet!

Eva in my class this year wanted a class pet. So Brenda said to convince her. Some people didn't want a class pet but Billy wanted some class robots. After the week ends Brenda said we will have a class pet. But not just a class pet Brenda said we will have some class robots! We are going on Thuresday to look at some fish. Also we are going to have a good bye party. This is the fish tank.

My creature

This is a Dragon-Bunny-Pug-Zebra-Unicorn-Eve. We made a picture of our own animal then we painted the picture if we thought it was good to paint. Then we had to write about our animal. We had to write what it eats what it looks like and more. This is my creature. If you want to know the name it's on the top.

Kennels

If you read chapter chat you should know the book "because of Winn-Dixie. We had a task of making a kennel. These are some kennels that my class made.

Shadow art

This is some art that we made. When we were done we went in groups of three. We shone a light at the man that we made. We drew the shadow then we put them on the wall. This is the one that I made.

Shadows (term 2)

I had a really good understanding of shadows. This is what I made in term 1. I had one little thing that shadow I had a smiley face on my shadow.

Charlotte's web

We joined chapter chat for Charlotte's web. This is some art that we have done after we read the book. I'll tell you how we made them. First we made a web on white paper. We had to do the web on the top quarter. We made a line in the middle of the web after we did that we drawer a spider on the end of the line. You needed to have your name in the web. The spiders are black. Then we painted them with die. The die colour is blue and green if you wanted a day coloured art you need red and orange. Then we let Them to dry for about an hour. Then you have your art!

Maths (perimeter & area)

We have been learning about perimeter & area. This is my poster that I made.

Kapa Haka

21.6.16

Before we go to Kapa Haka we try it out twice (one a week) & choose if you want to do Kapa Haka. I tried it out & I like Kapa Haka so I joined Kapa Haka. In Kapa Haka we do Te Reo (māori) songs with Rosy, Troy & Fire. I enjoy Kapa Haka. In my class Libby, Joseph & me go to Kapa Haka together. We do Kapa Haka In the Hall Rosy, Troy & Fire Teach us some song then we practice them until we know what to do while we sing. 

World Of Maths

On Thursday 16 June the world of maths roadshow came to school. We wad to do what the instructions said. My favourite activity was called Animals. you had to make the animal shape out of lots of different shapes. The most challenging activity was called 2 frogs. You had to work out witch one of them was heaviest & lightest + the secret word. The secret word was Fredo. I think it's a name of something.  

3D Maths

This is my 3D maths. I worked with Riya. Riya is one of my best friends. It was really easy but I enjoyed it. It's fun. You should try it out. It's good for learning in maths.

Chapter Chat

Every week we have a chapter book to read sometime of the day. Then every Friday we tweet about the book we read. For an example our book that we read now is called Because of Winn-Dixie. We are enjoying the book that we read. We only read about 4 or 5 chapters so far. Winn-Dixie is a dog doing funny stuff. There is some funny names in the book. Long names, Short names & more. Last before we had this book the other book was called Charlotte's web. Charlotte's web was fun to. I have watched the movie of Charlotte's web. We have it as our own DVD at home. The book & the movie are mostly the same. Charlott is a spider & more characters like Wilbur the pig & Templeton the rat. Both of the books are fun. You should read the books & watch the movies. I have not seen the movie of the book called because of Winn-Dixie. They are full of fun. There are some pictures about chapter chat like how to write a quality tweet.

Cross Country

Before Cross Country

When we were ready to jump in the bus we lined up in two lines then we marched to David. David talked us through the rules then we jumed in the bus. When we arived we got out of the bus & went with our own class to were we start the race. First the year 6 girles went & then the year 6 boys. After went the year 5 girls & boys then it was finerly my turn the year 4 girls & boys.

Cross Country

When David beeped a horn in his we went racing down the track at Skogland park. I thought I would be last but I got 10th. I really enjoyed cross country. last year I was last at the cross country but this year I was 10th! I could not believe it! It was so awesome that I got 10th! Riya my friend got 7th or 8th I'm not sure.

Sports Starts

This term our class has been using Sports Start. We are getting better at these skills:

• batting

Our class has been playing Diamond Ball which is like Baseball/Softball.

I have improved with throwing, batting, catching, running & jumping.

I really enjoyed playing Diamond Ball & caching games.

I need to keep working on fast reactions & passing.

PLANET FACTS

Our class worked together to create this slide show. We worked hard. We worked in groups. I worked about facts of the planet Mars with Flo, Cam & some-one else who I don't remember.

Cross Country Feeling & Goal

Today is cross country. I'm feeling exited but nervous. It's going to happen at Skoglund park.

 My goal is:

 get in the top ten, none stop running & try my best.

Dance NZ Made

This is a video of room 10,7 and 6 doing dance NZ made. We were only deciding if we want to do dance NZ made. I'm doing this the 2nd time because I did it last year. Are you doing it? My friends do it Riya, & Rebecca. I'm not here when we do it on the stage because l'm going to Hungary. I will miss New Zealand but I miss Hungary now. I'm exited about doing our first practice. Room 6&4's Assembly

In our assembly most of our class got a speaking part. I was one of the people to have a speaking part. Riya my friend didn't get a speaking part like me. It was fun. We had a brain crown and a wight T-shirt from room seven. We had to be in front of every one in the school even parents! Some people were shy but I wasn't shy like some other people were. Max played Mathsletics on the big screen so everyone can see him play. Cam shared his story of how we got the moon. I shared my treasure map with the whole school. I love doing Assemblies . Do you? If you are shy just give it a try. The truth is I was shy at our practice Assembly. We had a great Assembly. Room six helped Room 4. (Our body class.) I was so proud of my self. My 10 spider facts

1. Spiders have glads that make silk.

2. They are the largest of Arachnids.

3. They are 7th in the world when it comes to diversity among their populations.

4. Most spiders don't live in the bodies of water only a few species. They are able to live in all other types of habitat.

5. All spiders have 8 legs.

6. They don't have antenna which is what separates them from insects. 7. The blood of a spider is light blue in colour.

8. The number of eggs a female delivers can be up to 3,000. 9. Most spiders have eight simple eyes.

10. Jumping spiders can see more colours then you do. I hope you liked my ten spider facts.

Shadows

We are learning about shadows. These are some photos of some shadow learning. We did shadows with our shadows with the sun stick & a pencil. You can see what we have done with our shadows on to photo. The sun stick only some people did. The pencil Brenda did with one or two people. The shadow with Amelie & someone else we all did maybe Brenda too. I hope you like our work.

Max's cake

This is a cake that Max made with his mum. Cam took the photo of the cake. We ate it at brainfood in class. Also someone sent the picture on chapter chat. Every one liked the cake.

The four necklaces & the five sisters (Legend)

18.5.16 (Wednesday 18th May

Once upon a time there was five sisters. Their names were Riya, Eva, Nora & Clara & each got a necklace. But one of the sisters didn’t get a necklace. She was Really angry. She was so angry she stole the necklaces and through them up in the sky. The four sisters cried so much that the sea got really salty. So salty that the fish in the sea got sick but they got better again. The fish did not mind the salty water after a day. The four necklaces all went together and that is our moon to day. If you are lucky you can see a man in the moon. The necklaces made a picture of a man. The beads went every & that is the the stars that you can see with the moon.

Planet Earth & Beyond - Pre Assessment

This term we are studying ‘Planet Earth and Beyond'. Part of this Inquiry includes looking at how we get shadows, as well as day and night. Over the term we will be doing different investigations to better our understanding. Above is a sample of my current thinking. I am looking forward to learning about earth and science. I hope to be doing art, writing, maybe even math about planets and Earth! I love learning about everything. But the only problem is thatI don't remember every thing. So about shadows I all ready know that if the sun is on the right side then your shadow will be on the left side.

Mother's Day (Sunday)

On Mother's Day in the morning I gave my mum some presents. The first present was a card that I made at school. (With Room seven.) The other present was a card that I made at home with dad. My brother was at his swimming lessens with my mum. We finished just in time. (That was at Saturday.) So my next present was coconut ice that we also made at school. (with Room seven.) My fourth present was a bag made by paper that I made. I might of had more but I don't remember them. After we had lunch me and mum went to a fun run/walk and I got a t-shirt when we booked online. On Sunday we cycled to the Mother's day fun run/walk. when we got there we ticked our names off got a goody bag a bottle of water I got a heart on my cheek. When we got the the bottle of water they all ready started running so we had to do it fast and we did. We raced through the people and we ended up in the middle. Mum liked racing so she didn't like being in the back. Thats why we raced through the people. People went past us so we ran more and more. When we got to the end we saw a timer and it said 50 minutes. I thought it would be 2 hours. After we did the fun run\walk we got a banana and apple one more little drink bottle there was some winners but I don't know how to really say it. Then we cycled home. that was a really fun day. Before I end the story I want to say more. It was about in the middle. I saw Bjorn when I was walking with my mum at the mother's day fun run/walk. It was Awesome!

ETCO (Fun week.)

Reflection: when the year 5-6's went to camp we had fun week. on Monday we had art day, on Tuesday we had Bledisloe park and on the same day we went to kids Republic, on Wednesday we did construction day, on  Thursday we had water day and on Friday we had the camp out day. I loved that week I wish I could do this every week. Florence is on the picture.

Weet-Bix Tryathlon

Hi it's Sophie here, I didn't go to school on Thursday, 24th March because I went to the Weet-Bix tryathlon . It was held around the Esplanade in Palmy. I started to do training before I broke my arm (But that's another story and I don't have a broken arm any more.) I practiced running, cycling and even had extra swimming lessons.
 It was a very wet day. Me and my mum cycled to the event. My dad joined us before my race  started. After we signed in, we looked around, played some games where I won prices, had breakfast at the Weet-Bix tent. Later we found the Russell St school tent where I met Florence, Cam, Tui, Kate, Emily and Blake. I was  in the green team. First we went swimming (50m.) then cycling (4km.) and running last (1.5km.) I did well with cycling and running I didn't need to stop. My parents are very proud of me. I'm proud of myself too. I was glad I finished. 2200 kids were doing the Weet-Bix triathlon ages 7-15. I think I was AWESOME!!!!!!!! I was a little puffed out. I did my best. I'm happy for my medal too.

Active Listening

We are learning about different types of listening. There are 3 main types of listening that we learnt about. Busy Listening - When the person listening is busy doing something. They are too busy to concentrate on what is being said. Me Too Listening - When the person listening has a story that they feel is more important than the person talking so they interrupt and share their story instead of listening. Active Listening - When the person listening looks at the person talking, concentrates, gives non-verbal feedback (e.g. nodding) and asks questions about the story. To learn about the different types of listening, we watched this video:

 

 As a class we created our own video to help us understand the different types.
After practising each type of listening, we realised…

• Busy listening makes us feel like you’re not listening to us. We found it really hard to keep talking. 
• Me too listening makes us feel frustrated and sad that you think your story is more important. 
• Active listening makes us feel valued. We know you are listening because you are looking, nodding, asking questions. 

 As a class we are all trying to get better at being active listeners.

Music

In music with Jenny we are learning to play in a band. We are all learning different instruments and we are working on our rhythm. Check out our videos:

Swimming Goal

 You can see on the video what my goal is. If the video is to short I will write my goal. My goal is to keep my chin on my chest. This video is all about Sophie's swimming goal. Do you think I'm a little bit good at swimming? I think I am good. But only a little bit. Well that is what I think.
GOAL REFLECTION

I need to work on my goal because 4-3 weeks later I had a broken arm. But don't be sad I don't have a  broken arm anymore. so I will try to make my chin stuck on my chest. (I don't mean stuck like stuck in mud or something.) I wander what your swimming goal is. (If you are in room six.)

Swimming Sports (Lido)

Tuesday: I didn't go swimming because I had a broken arm. (I do not have a broken arm now.) It wasn't that fun watching other people swimming but I did eat yummy food when I was watching people swim. I was feeling a little left out. no-one would make me happy. would you want to be alone, left out & stuff? you can see that I don't like it. (If you want to know.)

After we went swimming we went to the Esplnade. I played in the shade because I didn't have a hat at the Esplnade. Rebecca, Riya and Sahina played with me. I don't remember what we played in the shade. I did have fun playing with my friends. I want to play there again with my friends. It was awesome with my friends without my friends I would be alone. Made on Thursday

HEXAGONS MATHS PRACTICE (WITH BRENDA.)

MONDAY: With Brenda we learnt how to split numbers in times tabels.We learnt a new way to do maths (Times tabels.) We had animals in a number lie 9 6 & more. so they had a doted line to help us split the animals. we made a video & we hope you like it.We did work on it hard. You will know how we really did it. SPECIAL PERSON POEM

Van Gogh Styled Art

We are learning to paint like Van Gogh. We have read lots of books and watched some tutorials. We've experimented with painting our portraits and now we have had a go at painting sunflowers.

Our paintings needs to have

• short brush strokes
• bright colours
• positive & negative images (Main object with a complementing background)
